The Western Piedmont Council of Governments (WPCOG) has served as one of the region’s premier organizations focusing on key economic and local government issues facing this North Carolina region in the western foothills of North Carolina. Established in 1968 by the state of North Carolina, the Western Piedmont COG has represented the interests of all the region’s local governments for over 40 years.  This voluntary membership group is a non-profit association providing long-range planning and technical assistance to its members on a broad range of local government issues. The WPCOG’s 35-member Policy Board represents the Hickory Metro’s municipal and county elected officials and the private sector.
